Here is how we do it…
For actors to be successful, it is essential that a great acting class include the following:
- Guarantee an environment of trust and mutual respect
- Empower your sense of self and relationship to the craft and career.
- Create situations for knowledge to be applied and technical expertise to be developed
- Expand your knowledge and skills as an actor and artist
- Help you develop and strengthen your artistic sensibilities
- Take you to points of satisfaction and fulfillment
- Offer inspiration personally, artistically and professionally
- Make sure our goals and expectations are clear
- Help you overcome your weaknesses
- Provide approachable teachers who challenge you in a respectful way
In turn, the student’s responsibilities are:
- To sincerely apply the lessons given
- Respect the role of the teacher
- Come to the class (or material) with an open mind and willing attitude
- Be willing to take risks
- Refrain from judgment of his/her colleagues
- Not harbor doubt, rather express concerns freely
- Do your best
The purpose of the studio is to continue the rich traditions of actor training, while exploring and creating new methods of the craft. And have fun doing it.

I keep the above statement firmly in mind when I teach. I ask that you participate actively in your education and development by encouraging you to offer your opinions, ideas and observations. This is how mutual trust is created, a vital part of your learning and success.
I relate with every student directly, honestly and compassionately, asking that you are honest with yourself and me. My experience is that students appreciate strictness so long as it is impartial, consistent and done with full respect.
I strive to recognize each student’s uniqueness – his or her individual strengths and inclinations. I believe that for every actor there is a just right teacher and for every teacher there is just right student, and finding that fit is a delicate balance. Regardless, every student must be treated fairly and considerately.
I also know that not every student will go on to be a professional theatre artist. Therefore, I remind myself that an enriched and developed person will contribute to their society and culture no matter what field or career they may find themselves in.
Ultimately, my goal is to participate in the development of clear thinking, enlightened people who create value for themselves and others.
The ability to courageously move forward is essential to great acting.
